My desire to sample more comics and characters has led me to seek out good introductory points for characters I’ve either been recommended or ‘just quite fancied’. Deadpool is one such unhinged and ultra-violent character that appeals to a certain part of me. I shan’t say which part. Deadpool MAX II #1 proved to be a perfect introduction to the character for me and so I would definitely recommend it to others thinking of trying out the character.
From the ‘Wanted Poster’ cover you’d be forgiven for thinking this book might just be a slightly oddball-ish and irreverent character in a standard comic book story, accompanied by uninspired art and a predictable story so tepid and middle of the road is the cover. This comic book is absolutely none of those things. Its brilliant.
The entire hilariously sleazy introduction takes place with a minimum of dialogue and is soundtracked accurately by a variety of beastly private both porn movies. This really takes a huge dig at a lot of superhero dialogue. The whole section is incredible funny and not only serves as an introduction to Deadpool and his pal Hydra Bob but to the creative team too. Both artistically and structurally this book is very different from the norm and should leave you desperate for more.
This is a definite BUY BUY BUY from me, roll on #2
