Another Image Comics highlight for this year (and probably for years to come) was Southern Bastards from Jason Aaron & Jason Latour who had previously teamed up on the likes of Scalped & Wolverine : Japan’s Most Wanted.
This story though steeps us in Alabama as the ways of the deep south play out in all their glorious, gruesome glory. Old town America viewed through the residents of Craw County – home to the Boss BBQ and state Champions the Runnin’ Rebs. Central to our first arc in issues #1-5 was Earl Tubb who takes being back in his hometown to take care of his recently deceased uncle’s affairs…….but that’s jsut the beginning. The real story kicks off when Earl sticks around and with his world weary, grizzled appearance and sense of doing what’s right……he’s soon drawn into a crime thriller which sees the world of drugs, football & fried chicken combine to stir up a great story from the creator’s minds.
Stellar stuff from the two Jason’s and another hit from Image Comics that’s surely got a long run ahead of it.
