A small press superhero comic can sometimes be a bigger risk than any other given the sheer amount of comics the big publishers produce of the same type……but The Standard from John Lees managed to buck that trend from issue #1.

It’s just a few days until the Glasgow Comic Con on the 5th & 6th of July and their’s no better way to truly start the summer than in the midst of a con that’s built up a significant following in it’s last few years, stretched to a 2-day event and now spread it’s guests, panels & dealers across three venues……a local highlight of my year and one that I’m hoping continues to go from strength to strength.

Make sure to check our Day 1 coverage too, since there’s loads of revealing bits from Mr Grant Morrison about his upcoming Multiversity series in there too.

Glasgow is a good place to be if you’re a comic fan – that coming from a totally unbiased Glaswegian comics fan of course. Not only is it home to an exceptionally large number of writers and artists, it’s got an amazing community of fans, eager to meet anywhere from their local comic shop to marts and events. One of those gatherings however, encourages budding comic book writers to come along, share their work with others and join in on discussions. Comics Anonymous popped along to one of the Glasgow League of Writers (or GLoW for short) fortnightly meetings to see what was going on.

As 2012 fills up the CA team diary with more Cons than Arkham Asylum, there’s also the added bonus of the TOP comic book contributors being highlighted in the numerous award ceremonies which take place at these. None more so than the long standing Eagle Awards (around since the mid-70’s) which are presented at this years MCM Expo London Comic Con in May. With the 1st round of nominations being open since the start of January through until the end of February, the CA team thought we’d try and highlight some key possibilities for your nominations…..
