It wouldn’t be a proper year of comics without a Lou Scannon issue and we had #7 debut at this year’s Thought Bubble last month.

It feels like a while since I had my hands on a new issue of Lou Scannon but no matter how much time passes between those issues it’s always been worth the wait and after six consistent issues so far I was hoping that issue #7 would continue that momentum.

With Nottingham Comic Convention just a week away I thought I’d take a look at some of the small press that’ll be in attendance that I’d recommend folks keep an eye out for.

Last weekend (11th-13th July) saw the annual London Film and Comic Con hit – a new con for me to attend but one that had me hyped with the guests in attendance and possibility of a weekend to remember.

With the flashbacks of last year’s bus journey to London for LSCC, I’m pleased to say that Comics Anonymous, comprising me and our official photographer (My wife Fiona), had the train/hotel organized well in advance. The process for press passes may have become more involved with a formal application but we were lucky enough to receive two for the event and last weekend (15th & 16th March) saw the event kick-off the con calendar in style.

The first self-published title to make my list of highlights is Lou Scannon…..comedy gold in comic book form.

Last weekend saw Thought Bubble come to its annual climax as a week long celebration of sequential art ended with the 2-day comic con on the Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th November…..and it’s safe to say that this event has become one of the most popular events in the Comics Anonymous calendar.

With the first five issues of Lou Scannon going from strength to strength (see #1, #2, #3, #4 & #5) – it was always going to be interesting to see what creators Jim Bampfield, Kris Carter & Dan Harris would do next with their sci-fi, comedy masterpiece.

Issue #5 of the so far impressive Lou Scannon arrived on my doorstep a few weeks back and somehow it seemed to slip through my “next-to-read” pile as I drowned in an influx of new issues. Wall-to-wall “must-reads” could stand in the way no longer as the intrigue of the creative teams Facebook comments “It’s very different” aimed in my direction had me wary of what to expect.

This weekend sees the Thought Bubble Festival close with its two-day comic book event – quite possibly one of the best Comic Con’s in the UK and definitely a favourite of the Comics Anonymous gang. We have a table this year in the Royal Armouries Hall Table 88 which you can swing by for some Comic chat/shenanigans…..minus G-Man this year (He’s crying himself to sleep on the run up to it).
