COMICS ANONYMOUS TALKS TO SCOTT SNYDER by Craig

It’s Sunday afternoon of Kapow! 2012 and Scott Snyder sits down to chat to us in a ‘WWBD’ t-shirt (with the bat logo below it) – we’re probably the last people he wants to be chatting to, since he was out to the small hours of the night before with his Detective Comics buddy Jock, drinking and eating hot dogs. ‘It seemed like a brilliant idea at the time’ – at least we know he got a taste of the UK comic scene at it’s best. Hangover aside, Scott was nice enough to answer the many questions we had about all the titles he’s working on just now.

COMICS ANONYMOUS TALKS TO DAVID HINE by Linsay @softlyspokenlas

David Hine has been a constant fixture in comics since the early 1980s. He is a creator you’d find near impossible to pigeon-hole or predict. He has worked both as an artist and a writer and he began his career inking on Marvel UK titles. He has expanded the mythos of many of the fanboys’ dream characters, created manga for Tokyopop, developed properties for revolutionary publisher Radical and, alongside Brit art legend Shaky Kane, created the recent groundbreaking Image title Bulletproof Coffin. I caught up with Hine at London’s Kapow! convention last month to discuss some of his past work and his newly announced collaboration with Dougie Braithwaite, Storm Dogs.

Kapow 2012 had a lot to offer those in attendance with signings, stalls, artist alley, movie previews and screening – but it was the comics panels that Comics Anonymous were most interested in. With many big name panellists and some interesting announcements, here’s a run-down of what was on offer over the weekend.

DISCONNECTED PRESS – LOST: BOYS by Linsay @softlyspokenlas

I wasn’t kidding when I said I found the most excellent comics at Kapow! 2012 in the pub. Sadly, due to this being an incredibly busy convention season I am only now getting around to writing about and in some cases reading them. It’s always a challenge to decide which of your convention swag comics to read first and I often wonder how others choose. Will their first be an old favourite now signed by the writer? A convention exclusive variant cover? The impulse small press buy because the zombie on the back cover bears more than a passing resemblance to your friend’s boyfriend’s mother’s ex?

KAPOW 2012: AN AUDIENCE WITH WARREN ELLIS by Craig

Catching Warren Ellis out in the wild is hard to accomplish these days – he’d much rather stay home, write and drink whiskey, but lucky for us, he was invited along to this year’s Kapow! to do a panel and answer anything we asked him. His responses? A mixture of witty disregard for everything with some golden nuggets of advice gathered from an extensive and successful career in comics.

KAPOW! 2012: CUP O’ JOE WITH JOE QUESADA by gillianhastie

Joe Quesada would have loved the opportunity to talk to the guys in charge of Marvel and DC back in the day. This recurring panel is Joe’s way of giving back: ask him anything from comic books to love lives. Joining Joe on the panel at Kapow! 2012 were Mark Millar (Kick-Ass &c.), Kieron Gillen (Phonogram, Journey into Mystery), CB Cebulski (Marvel Talent Scout).

COMICS ANONYMOUS TALKS TO JON LOCK by G-Man

Following our earlier review of Afterlife Inc. – we were able to catch-up with creator/writer Jon Lock and bombard him with more questions than you can shake a rolled-up comic book at……well….maybe wave a bagged/boarded one at at least.

We’ve had our fair share of comic events this year, but none are as special as the one that helped sow the seeds of Comics Anonymous. As our first outing as a group, Gary tells us why KAPOW! 2011 was one never to forget.

COMICS ANONYMOUS TALKS TO NICH ANGELL by Linsay @softlyspokenlas

After picking up Nich Angell’s 7 String – Track 1 at Kapow this year I found myself going back to it a couple of times, and passing it around a few friends. Surely the mark of a good comic book? I reviewed Track 1 and bought Tracks 2 & 3 from Nich at Thought Bubble.
