I usually wait until the end of a review to give out my inconsistent and occasionally irrelevant scores but today I’m giving you the score for Monocyte #4 first. Then I’m going to try and back that up by talking about this comic in a way that properly justifies it. I’m almost certainly going to fail. I’m not the most eloquent of reviewers and I’ve never discussed or read a comic like this before. I’m not sure I will, ever again. At least until the next Menton/ Ghanbari series is commissioned.

Last month, the Comics Anon team left their cold and windy hometown of Glasgow and ventured down south to the much sunnier city of London for our first Comic Con of the year – London Super Comic Con. With this being its first year in existence we were a little apprehensive about how the weekend would be, but most of those doubts were put to rest by the end of it. With a big venue, a big crowd and a big guest, it was definitely an experience the gang won’t forget. (Apologies it’s a little late – we had a few technical difficulties!) Here’s what Craig and Gary thought about the weekend.
All too often I come back from my local shop with a huge stack of comics and devour them furiously, one after the other. With the many spin-off titles and big ticket characters appearing in the multitude of books, they can easily blur together and become forgettable. Sure, I can remember story details and hold a conversation about ‘what Cap did next’ just as well as the next reader, but I’ve been getting a little jaded when it comes to feeling my comics. The comic book that imparts a real feeling that stays with you, long after you’ve read it, is getting rarer than ever. I suppose that’s why I took so much notice of Monocyte. Continue reading

Cold War, The Michael Swann Dossier, The Damocles Contract, yes, there is a fair bit of text and title action on the cover of this comic book. Don’t be put off though, this is exactly the old school spy mystery you’ve been looking for. I picked up the Eternal Descent Volume 1 trade at Kapow earlier this year after being lured to their stall by huge Marshall amps and Les Pauls with exciting paint jobs. I enjoyed the book, read it quickly and found it to be a lot of fun. It featured as characters, a lot of musicians from bands I like which was quite an interesting idea although it was clear the story was unfinished and so I looked forward to Volume 2. Over the past few months the Eternal Descent team have been teasing us with lots of themed guitars and guitar merch. The difference between these and that Deadpool guitar I was coveting is these actually look more than playable.
