The much talked about, much-hyped team-up of Mark Millar & Frank Quitely hits with #1 of this latest title from Image. Millar, Quitely AND Image – sounds like a winner before we open that issue but does the title deliver what we’d expect??

We’re hurtling towards the end of 2012 but that doesn’t mean the Comics Anonymous gang can’t still make the last of their Comic Con’s for the year and so I made the trip to Dublin’s fair city to take in the Dublin International Comic Expo (D.I.C.E.) being run by the team behind The Big Bang comic shop.

20-years ago a group of 8 comic book creators brought their collective heads together and formed Image Comics. Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Rob Liefield, Marc Silvestri, Erik Larsen, Jim Valentino, Whilce Portacio & Chris Claremont brought a new approach to the corporate take on who owned the rights to the characters being created. One of the earliest creations from those early days was Superpatriot – an Erik Larsen creation from the pages of Savage Dragon which spun-off into his own mini-series.

What could be better than Mike Mignola writing a 1930’s pulp tale?……got me…..I can’t think of anything better. I’m a Mignola fan and I love old school characters like The Shadow, The Rocketeer and The Phantom – surely I was onto a winner?
