BATWING #3 by Linsay @softlyspokenlas

Over issues 1 to 3, Batwing has been the most enjoyable of the ‘Bat-Books’ and has also been, out of the 52 other titles, the most surprising. The premise of the book is overwhelmingly silly and reminds me of a phase my younger brother went through when he had to prefix every noun with the word ‘bat’, occasionally in reference to the cartoons and movies but more often than not of his own invention.

Batwoman #1 was such a long time coming we were all a bit worried it would disappoint. Luckily it did not. The real test, of course, comes as a series progresses and issue 2 is a great point to judge if you’ve got a stormer of a book on your hands, or the lame duck that you need to get off your pull list ASAP.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #2 by Craig

Ok, so we probably got carried away with ourselves last month when we got the first glimpse of the first DCNew52, Justice League. DC’s hype-machine had been running for month’s ahead of the launch, we’d just come out of a Flashpoint high and we were ready to explode at the anticipation of a new world and new costumes. 51 issues later and we are in a much better position to see what JL#1 was really like – i.e. note quite the best of the bunch. But what does #2 do to try and improve on this?

Holy-Moly, this is one damn fine comic book, if not the best of the 52. Issue #1 wasn’t just a fluke, this series has the best two creators working in perfect harmony to create one of the best Batman stories in years.

Kyle Higgins and the art team consisting of Eddy Barrows, J.P. Mayer and Paulo Siqueira have brought us an even bigger action packed issue of Nightwing than last month’s, proving that Dick definitely deserves his own series.

Now after a whole month of #1s, the hard decisions come – what will I pick up the #2 of? If you’re like me (and have any sense) you’ll have pre-ordered your #2s a couple of months ago, not having laid an eye on any #1 – so it was difficult to try and guess what I’d want to keep, and what I expected to be cack! 52 issues later, and there’s both a lot of surprises, and a lot of disappointments – however the one constant in my life Batman, so there was no surprises that Detective Comics was in my pile last week.

Here it is – the final Bat comic of the new 52. Bruce Wayne gets another comic to himself, but I have a question – do we need it?

The DC 52 sees a new-start for many characters including Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, and our first look at the cover shows us the fairly mature approach we’d expect from a sexy & feisty cat-burglar comic… an obvious emphasis on the “Woman” part of the title.

Holy Bat-crap! This is the Batman comic we have been waiting for… Or certainly the one I was. And it doesn’t disappoint. Not one bit. Scott Snyder has been making a name for himself as a master Batman writer with his excellent run on Detective comics. Greg Capullo has an impressive past on Spawn. Together, they make an unstoppable dynamic duo.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #1 by Craig

Batman and Robin are BACK! But rather than rewriting the rules, it’s almost as if this picks up just where we left off before all of this Flashpoint business. The one big difference though is who makes up the dynamic duo, which sees the return of Bruce alongside his own Son, battling crime together as a pair for the first time.

WARNING: some spoilers. Continue reading
