A small press superhero comic can sometimes be a bigger risk than any other given the sheer amount of comics the big publishers produce of the same type……but The Standard from John Lees managed to buck that trend from issue #1.
The 6-issue run finished with issues #5 & #6 debuting at this year’s Glasgow Comic Con and saw John finish off a true gem within the small press world. A great mix of superhero epicness that you would expect but a darker side along with very human elements gave this a fresh feel in a sea of superhero comics. Stellar artwork from Jonathan Rector then gave this a key element that could capture each of the aspects in John’s story.
It was no wonder that ComixTribe picked this up and we saw it get a release across the globe through Diamond. A fresh, new Superhero story that everyone should read if they can as the elements are there to please everyone’s tastes as humour, sadness, revenge, murder, mystery & action all blend perfectly as the creative team work in sync across the entire run without missing a step.
Check out more of this in my previous reviews of all 6 issues – #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 & #6
