As marvel’s Phase 2 films kept on trucking all the major players got their moment back on the big screen and while Iron Man 3 & Thor 2 had left me underwhelmed……Captain America 2 would buck that trend.
Chris Evans would return as Steve Rogers/Cap as he’s now firmly placed in the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization working with regular agents Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) & Agent Hill (Cobie Smulders) with the main man Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) heading things up. There’s also the introduction of Sam Wilson aka Falcon played by Anthony Mackie who has an instant chemistry with Evans as Cap that captures the duo’s comic book team-up with ease. The strong plot sees the true impact of Hydra shatter the ideas of what S.H.I.E.L.D. represents and bring the whole organization crumbling around itself as n one knows who to trust any more.
Crucial to the success of the movie was the handling of the big reveal behind the mysterious Winter Soldier and it rocked Cap just as much as his struggle to adjust to modern times. Smart, slick & funny throughout it managed to regain my faith in the potential that the Marvel movie universe has and shot this straight to the top of my list of favourite releases from Marvel Studios. The success of this movie was two-fold though as it also managed to elevate the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from what had been a fairly muted start to the series that had struggled to wow fans since it’s release.
G-Man
