There are a few writer/creator team-ups out there that just make sense…..that match each other like some sort of cosmic comic ying & yang……and this year we had one of those with Steve Niles & Damien Worm over at IDW.

Earlier this year they hit us with 3-parter Monster and Madman (#1. #2 & #3) that saw the darker side of life in London when Frankenstein’s Monster was befriended by Jack the Ripper who used his medical training to study and learn from his latest test subject.  His friendship masked the true reason for his interest and his murderous ways soon became evident.

Monster and Madman

They followed that up later in the year with a new ongoing title, The October Faction (#1 & #2).  A title that brought us the Allan Family and a mix of ex-monster hunter, a witch, a wizard and everything else in between as we were meticulously introduced to a dysfunctional family with deep problems and even deeper secrets.

The Allan Home

Both titles have a dark, gloomy feel to them but the combination of Steve Niles’ characterization and the beautiful artwork makes this a match made in heaven/hell for us comic book fans.  I loved the Niles/Templesmith team-up (and still do) and there are some comparisons with the darker themes but this new team has something more….an instant chemistry that gives the stories a depth as they pour that feeling of history onto the pages and into the characters we’re on the shoulder of for these releases.  Great comics by great creators……I don’t think it gets much better than this.
