It’s time for my roundup of highlights for the year and 2014 has been another strong year for all things comic book related as comics, cons, TV & movies all provided some great moments.
First up is Magneto from Marvel that teamed up writer Cullen Bunn, artist Gabriel Hernandez Walta & colourist Jordie Bellaire with a far more sedate approach to the self-proclaimed savior of the mutant race. Acting out his revenge against those that would repress, torture or even kill the mutants in the Marvel universe with a reduction in his all-out, grandiose atacks that we may have seen from previous versions of the characters. That’s not to say that this sedate approach doesn’t build-up to some bold action scenes where the moody, raw artwork from Walta is emphasized that little bit further by Bellaire’s phenomenal colours.
Cullen makes sure we know that this is STILL Magneto and he still poses the same threat he always has…..but for now he’s acting that under the radar and out of the public eye as much as possible. Great stuff from the creative team and a title that I’m hoping gets a hardback release soon.
