After catching up on Porcelain : A Gothic Fairy Tale (reviewed here) I was hyped to get a look at some early preview images of the second volume, Bone China that’s set for release next year.
This is the first time I had seen the coloured pages but I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of some of Chris Wildgoose’ original artwork when I met him at Nottingham Comic Con earlier this year and the same look & feel were there from Volume One along with some of the most impressive level of detail I’ve seen in ANY title, let alone a creator-owned small press title. We went on to chat about all things Porcelain and more…..so there was even more hype after that meeting.
Improper books released this recent announcement about what to expect from Volume Two:
Improper Books are delighted to announce PORCELAIN: BONE CHINA by Benjamin Read & Chris Wildgoose. The second volume of their creator-owned Porcelain: A Gothic Fairy Tale trilogy, Bone China is set for release in Spring 2015.
A free, full colour preview of the first 12 pages of Bone China will be available at THOUGHT BUBBLE in Leeds, on the 15th and 16th November. Those not attending Thought Bubble can also pick up a free copy thanks to supporting shops, such as Gosh! (London), Orbital Comics (London), Page 45 (Nottingham), Travelling Man (Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, York).
In Bone China, more than a decade has passed since the events of Porcelain: A Gothic Fairy Tale, and Child has become Lady. Inheritor of all of Uncle’s secrets and wealth, she has continued his work, becoming equally as isolated in her quest to refine the Porcelain and put right past mistakes.
With the Porcelain more sought after than ever, Lady comes to the attention of a ruthlessly ambitious General who desires inhuman soldiers for the war effort and won’t take no for an answer. Other, more human, problems rear their head when a handsome young Captain discovers a secret part of Lady’s life.
Faced with impossible choices, Lady must forge her own path through the complexities of love and war.
Written by Benjamin Read and illustrated by Chris Wildgoose, with colours by André May, and lettering by Jim Campbell, Bone China is set within a world that’s a darkly magical echo of our own, and continues to follow the life story of the girl who climbed over a wall and into a gothic fairy tale.
Bone China already appears on my titles to look out for in 2015 so this is one I’ll be keeping an eye on and I’ll hopefully get my hands on that preview at Thought Bubble next weekend too.
Check out this and more over at the Improper Books website too.
G-Man
