July saw the annual Glasgow Comic Con take place in a weekend of sunshine, beer and comics……fun times for all and another sell-out.
The biggest change for this year was the venue as the 2-day event took up its new residence at the CCA on Sauchiehall Street. A much more open venue that caught the sun for the entire weekend with much more floor space to house the local indie publishers, traders and guests with a smart layout was a major improvement for this year’s event. I would say this has now eased into among my favourite Comic Con’s and not JUST because it’s local. A comic con that focuses on the comics and doesn’t give into the merchandizing side and allows the newbie and seasoned geek to fill gaps in their collections, get signatures on their favourite issues and just enjoy being in the same room as other people who share and “get” your interest in the vast world of comics and beyond.
Another impressive array of guests were signing and sketching their way through the weekend with enough of a laidback vibe to just chat about their techniques and have a laugh with the fans. The Cosplay competition was cheered on each day by everyone nearby and the panels were well spaced out and attended to let you work your way around the whole venue and take in every stall in the place.
Growing in success with an increasingly impressive calibre of guests and the organizers are making swift progress in making this a continued success…..roll-on 2014 😀
