There couldn’t have been a list of highlights for 2012 without mentioning the range of indie & small press releases that we’ve been able to get our hands on over the course of the year.
It’s true they have a more substantial amount of time between issues as self-funding and kickstarter projects help these hit the printers without the substantial backing of a big publisher. The thing is, the passion for storytelling and the ability to take risks while doing that has proven to be so substantial within the titles we’ve been following that the wait has proved to be worth it time and again.
Whether the titles themselves have been produced purely in black & white releases or have a large enough creative team pulled together to spread the load and have colouring/inking/lettering done by individuals – the result has primarily been the same across the board. A strong approach to the story being told and with a significant level of quality throughout the layouts, the art making them part of the monthly struggle when deciding which issue to read first…..a welcome challenge for the Comics Anon gang and one we hope to continue facing in 2013. I just hope we can help spread the word on these issues and help them gain the much-needed attention they deserve.
