The April release of Oblivion sees Tom Cruise step back into the sci-fi genre but with a very different approach to his previous roles in the likes of Minority Report and War of the Worlds – as the high action set-pieces have given way to a much steadier paced film. The usual mix of new titles and ongoing’s keep coming again this week with DC releasing a mass of wraparound covers on their titles.

Issue #5 of the so far impressive Lou Scannon arrived on my doorstep a few weeks back and somehow it seemed to slip through my “next-to-read” pile as I drowned in an influx of new issues. Wall-to-wall “must-reads” could stand in the way no longer as the intrigue of the creative teams Facebook comments “It’s very different” aimed in my direction had me wary of what to expect.
Quite a few interesting new releases starting this week other than the two above but there’s more continuing titles too that I’m keeping an eye on.
Another big release from Marvel Now with Guardians of the Galaxy kicking of the adventure where that issue #0.1 left off plus we’ve got more fallout form the Bat-Universe…..even better, that’s only the tip of the iceberg with the stories on offer.

Big release this week in Wolverine #1 by Paul Cornell but there are some other key releases this week too….

The Guardians of the Galaxy title is set to hit next month with #1 and it felt strange that Marvel would bring us a #0.1 (daft numbering again it seems) but this sets things up with an origin tale with a difference.

With a great opening start in those first 3-issues (reviewed here) we see Dan Slott continue to mess with Spidey’s life, head AND relationships…….and I’m loving it
