Hello comic-reading friends, acquaintances, strangers etc.  Want to know what we reckon is worth buying this week?  Come on in, we’ll try to help you decide…

New releases

I’m super-duper-excited about the release of Captain Marvel with Carol Danvers in swash-buckling glory this week.  Costume by McKelvie, antics by DeConnick and Soy.  This issue #1 is much hyped and Danvers’ promotion is quite a serious statement for women characters in comics – yadda yadda (insert feminist rubbish here) – but really, if Marvel’s intention was to make some sorta statement, it’s either decades behind the rest of the world or Don Draper became Editor-in-Chief.  I’m hoping for no such statement and LOTS of ARSE-KICKING ACTION.

Nothing earth-shattering from DC this week, I don’t think.  We’re on to issue #11 of the new52 and the pick of the bunch, in my humble opinion, is Supergirl.

I’ll be getting my cheap thrills from IDW’s Danger Girl GI Joe this week.   (Not those kinds of cheap thrills, dear Fifty Shades fans!)  I like the character – I’m a Batgirl and Supergirl fan so I’m used to ignoring boobs and butt.

Here’s G-Man’s perspective:

Saga #5 – weirder and weirder but better and better;
Avengers vs. X-Men #8 – lot of folks seem to be against this arc for some reason, I think it’s working well and the AR App stuff has been an interesting quirk [see Gary's take on augmented reality here];
Secret Service #3 – can’t say I’m blown away with this but we’ll see how the penultimate issue fares;
Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre #2 – none of the Watchmen #1′s have has wowed me, hopefully the #2′s will pick up.

Last week’s stack

The Walking Dead hit issue #100 and wow, it’s worth getting there.  Kirkman must hate his readers, he tortures us regularly, slicing and dicing those we care for, but this issue stands out as being the most stomach-churning yet. (I had to put it down half way through and I wasn’t sure I’d bring myself back to it).

See reviews a-plenty on the site, including those of Steamcraft and Revival.  There won’t be a TWD review soon though, I don’t think.  IT’S GREAT – that’s all you need.  Once you’ve picked it up, Kirkman and Adlard will convince you to stay with it.

Where we’re at

We’re all completely exhausted after a hard day at the Tough Mudder challenge – and most of us were just spectators.  G-Man pulled moves that’d put many a comic book character to shame and made it to the end without any tears (and we saw plenty of tears from others!).

Check out Craig’s awesome montage vid of G-Man here: America FUCK YEAH!  You can still sponsor him – please donate.
